On the
evening of February 19, 2005, the TarTan Gordon Setter
Club welcomed its membership to The Storrowton Tavern in
West Springfield, Massachusetts for our Annual Awards Banquet
and General Membership meeting. The Tavern is situated
within historical Storrowton Village Museum, an authentic
recreation of a 19th century village on the grounds of
the Eastern States Exposition. The charm of this old Inn
embraced our 43 attending members resulting in a superb,
comfortable evening for all.
The highlight of the evening was honoring 25 of our beloved
black and tans for their accomplishments in the field,
agility, obedience, and the conformation ring during the
calendar year 2004. We were also pleased to acknowledge
an additional 5 dogs for their outstanding accomplishments
during the calendar year 2003. Our President Larry Clifford
stepped in for Award Chair Phyllis Perrelli, who was unable
to attend, and presented the awards to our deserving members.
Special recognition was given to two members for their
outstanding contributions during the year. Maureen McLatchy,
heightened our awareness of Agility Trials. She organized
and ran (almost single-handedly), this extremely profitable
venture for TarTan. More importantly, through her example
and success in Agility, she has encouraged many new and
old members to participate with their dogs in this venue.
Lynn Tenny donated her time, expertise, and creativity
by designing a website for TarTan that is surpassed by
none. Lynn has taken TarTan to another level in the computer
age. She has been extremely generous with her talent and
TarTan will reap the benefits of her gracious giving and
multi-talent. Thank you to both of these outstanding members
of 2004.
Our guest speaker, Dr. Ann Huntington, who practices in
Suffield, CT, is a nationally recognized reproduction specialist
who has the third largest reproduction practice in the
country. She spoke on the subject of “Advances in
Fresh Chilled and Frozen Insemination”. She generously
answered questions for our members following her presentation.
We were honored to have her as our guest speaker.
Another accent of the evening was our Raffle coordinated
by TarTan’s own WonderWoman - Cynthia Fitzgerald!
Her assistants Sue Linhares, guest Colleen O’Brien,
Lynn Tenny, and Laura Bedford, arranged, labeled, sorted
and harmonized the display of goods to perfection. Soliciting
sales of raffle tickets was TarTan finest – Bill
Fralick. As testimony to his charm, wit, and handsome looks,
he sold a record number of raffle tickets increasing the
Club’s coffers by over $400.
Lastly, I would like to thank all who shared in this occasion,
new and old friends with lots of smiles - just the way
we like it at TarTan – A Family Affair.
